To support this, we are currently recruiting a Technician in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences to provide essential technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and academic staff.
The Role:
The role of Technician in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with the technical team, providing a comprehensive support service to students and staff in the Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences section of the School of Applied Sciences.
Your knowledge and experience of laboratory equipment and procedures will put you in an excellent position to assist the senior technician and ensure that the maintenance, organisation and development of the facilities and equipment reflects departmental needs, in order to provide excellent teaching and research support.
As part of the role, you will be given the responsibility to assist with the daily running of laboratories for practical classes and provide support to project students. Your skills and knowledge of equipment such as on-line gas analysers, ergometers, glucose/lactate blood testing, 3-D motion capture systems, EMG activity/sleep monitoring and athlete performance monitoring technology will come in handy here, as you will also get involved in the set up and clear up of materials/equipment and demonstrate the use of equipment and relevant techniques relating to exercise physiology, biomechanics, activity and health and human performance, to students and staff.
Your excellent organisational skills will also serve you well, as you maintain up-to-date database records of consumables and equipment for audit purposes and support with the ordering of consumables and equipment, liaising with academics and external sales companies for procurement purposes.
Other duties will include assisting the team in undertaking minor maintenance, routine calibration, cleaning, and adjustment of laboratory equipment, adhering to Health and Safety practices in line with University and School requirements.
