Hub Manager (Hub For Success Project) 24 Month Fixed Term Contract
Job description
Why Join Us?
Edinburgh Napier University is a forward thinking institution home to forward-thinking people, inspired by the world around them.
Our Widening Participation team works in partnership across the university and externally to reduce barriers and enable fairness in access to higher education for groups that are under-represented at university.
The team also supports students to make the journey into and through university life, through tailored transition activities to improve retention, engagement and success.
Students who have experienced Local Authority care, whether in residential accommodation, foster care or under supervision orders at home, may have encountered many barriers to learning, this is shown through the low percentage of whom are currently in Further or Higher Education. There is an obvious need for colleges and universities to develop strategies which improve the prospects and outcomes of this group. After previously being awarded the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark in recognition of our Plan of Commitment to care leavers we are keen to further our endeavours into reducing the barriers faced.
We are delighted to be leading the upcoming the Hub for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. (Support for University and College for Care Experienced in South-East Scotland) project along with several other education providers in Edinburgh and Lothians. This is a collaborative project concerned with improving post-school educational outcomes for people of all ages with experience of care in the South-East region of Scotland. The Hub will offer a holistic, partnership approach to raising aspirations, expectations and academic attainment.

Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for a Hub Manager to lead on this project, providing a responsive and accessible service for users; ensuring high quality standards are met throughout all aspects of delivery and that the needs of care-experienced service users remain at the centre of all activity. This is a two year, fixed term contract opportunity and the successful candidate will be based off-campus at a city centre location.
Working in collaboration with the Hub Partners, your own network and a range of care experienced contacts, you will develop innovative programmes and events to inspire, encourage and support care-experienced people to pursue post-school educational opportunities.
Candidates should have strong project management skills, with the ability to engage and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. It is crucial that our candidates have strong knowledge and understanding of the care sector and the challenges faced by care experienced people, in particular regarding accessing further and higher education. We would expect that candidates will likely have experience of working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or hard-to-reach groups. Candidates should evidence a clear commitment to social inclusion and equality with knowledge of the policies within which Further and Higher Education providers in Scotland operate.

How Will We Reward You?

Further information regarding our excellent benefits can be viewed here.
Edinburgh Napier University is committed to the creation of an inclusive culture.
There will be two stages to the interview process, the first on May 1st and the second on May 7th 2018.
