We are looking to appoint a new Professor to lead our expanding Psychology department. As part of the Professorial role you will provide leadership to the department as Head of Psychology for a minimum of three years, where you will join and work with colleagues in the School of Applied Sciences School Leadership Team to help successfully implement the School strategy. You will provide strategic leadership and support to colleagues delivering teaching, learning, and research and make a valuable contribution through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research whilst engaging in high quality teaching.
It is an exciting time to be joining the University with the recent REF showing us to be top Scottish modern university for both research power and research impact with 68% and 80% respectively now assessed as “internationally excellent” or “world leading”. Within our School 77% of research outputs submitted, were deemed world leading or internationally excellent in our four Units of Assessment (UoA). To support the continued growth of our research environment the School recently launched a new, cross institution, research Centre for Mind and Creativity Research. The Psychology department will play a significant role within this centre and has received significant investment this year to enhance our modern laboratory and research facilities to support the group’s research and teaching activities.
The role
As Professor in Psychology you will join our vibrant Psychology team and help shape the research culture for the future. We are seeking to appoint an internationally recognised scholar who brings an inclusive, collaborative approach to academic and people leadership. You will be responsible for a team of around 20 staff, developing, designing, and delivering teaching and student-centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship, research, and professional practice. As an active contributor, your expertise will enhance our undergraduate BPS accredited Psychology and Psychology with Sociology programmes, our BPS accredited MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology, and our MSc in Applied Criminology and Forensic Psychology.
You will act as Head of Psychology for a minimum of three years and be supported in the role to further develop your own academic career through access to a range of resources available to all University staff, and through a coaching approach to personal development.
