Associate Professor - Design (Graphics, Advertising or Interior/Spatial Design)
Based in our Merchiston campus our award-winning School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) is currently looking for an Associate Professor of Design to join the team and become a key leader
within the School.
The school hosts a range of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, and our annual showcase of the creative talent of new and emerging designers, photographers, and film makers draws widespread media attention. Please click the link for more information on our

SACI plays an active part in the creative industries in Scotland and is always working to develop its most important asset - its people. Our close links with leading organisations and employers ensures we keep our degrees abreast of sector needs and advances. We are widely recognised for our expertise and excellence in creative practice and our work is enhanced by extensive international collaboration providing both staff and student with the opportunity to work and study worldwide.
Our ambition is to be in the top ten for creative industries in UK HEIs and we are looking for a dynamic and pioneering academic to work collaboratively in enhancing our inspiring learning environment and making our students really stand out.
The Role
As Associate Professor in Design you will contribute to the academic leadership of the school. Working primarily in the Design, Advertising & Photography subject group, you will support the development of staff and students to create a positive student experience and contribute to develop research outputs for REF UoA 34 (Art & Design).
You will be ambitious in your career and this role will give you the opportunity to move into a head of subject position where you will drive forward strategic objectives.
What Are We Looking For
Applicants must demonstrate:
Breadth and depth of experience in specialism (Graphics, Advertising or Interior/Spatial Design)
Capacity to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes and have experience of research-led teaching and/or training
Good external networks
Evidence of generating external funding or successful research collaboration
Evidence of a professional or academic and research profile, including high-quality publications or exhibitions
Proven track record in leading and managing within a team environment
Completed PhD supervision is preferred, as is a doctoral qualification, but not essential.
