Lecturer in Graphic Design (Digital Specialism)– Full time, Permanent
We’re putting together a team to move our award-winning graphic design programme into the next phase of its development. As a result, we are looking for an inspirational graphic design lecturer with particular expertise in digital graphic design, motion graphics and emergent technologies. We will be appointing to one of the following academic pathways: Research, Learning & Teaching or Professional Practice.
The role
The graphic design programme at Edinburgh Napier is research led, with a strong social and ethical focus, instilling in our graduates a sense of global citizenship and social responsibility. Our students learn through creative inquiry, exploration and experimentation. We therefore welcome research-active applicants who are able to practically share their passion for research with students.
The role is based at our Merchiston Campus in our School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI), located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. Edinburgh is home to the world's largest arts festival, world class museums and galleries and has a vibrant design and media industry.

Who we are looking for
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about and rooted in the craft of graphic design. You will have a deep contextual understanding of where graphic design has come from, and exceptional technical skills in the practical craft of contemporary graphic design. You will have extensive professional design experience, and be able to demonstrate expertise across a range of areas of graphic design activity including typography, art direction, production and print craft, but with particular expertise in digital graphic design, motion graphics and emergent technologies.
But we also want someone who looks to the future: who has their finger on the pulse of contemporary theoretical and academic discourses within design practice and pedagogy, informing a cutting-edge future-oriented vision for where graphic design is going as it constantly transforms and evolves.
A PhD is desirable, but not essential. You will either hold a doctoral level qualification or demonstrate an equivalent professional or industrial standing.
The post holder should be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or eligible for a fast-track application.
